Contemporary Bestearies: Under the gurgling of the sewers
Engraved glass, wood, solder, tin
2025
In this exhibition, Noor Boiten, Charlie Jansen and Floor Snels explore the dusty, hidden life of the basement. Insects, often seen as dirty critters, are given a new appreciation here. Leftover materials, often hidden in corners, become image carriers. Under the constant clanging of the sewers, the line between function and meaning blurs.
The works of Noor, Charlie, and Floor invite a broader dialogue on perception, (de)construction, and the power of imagination in our relationship with materials, technology, and nature. Together, the works reflect on the tension between objectivity and subjectivity, showing processes of transformation, in which materials, behaviours, and meanings take on new roles. The basement thus becomes a place where the everyday shifts and the unseen become visible. It is an invitation to dwell on what disappears, what reshapes, and what manages to evade grip.
